Staff Scientist
Ivan graduated in both Biochemistry in 2008 and Biology in 2010 at the Universitat de Valencia, in Spain. He earned a Master’s in 2010, and a PhD in 2013, in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, focusing on the bioapplications of Quantum Dots at the University of Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona, Spain. For his postdoctoral trajectory, he initially moved to Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM) in Pozzuoli with a DTI-Import fellowship under the supervision of Antonella De Matteis to develop optogenetic tools for studying membrane trafficking. Then he moved for almost 6 years to the USA to join the Levental’s lab, first in Houston (Texas) and later in Charlottesville (Virginia), to apply synchronizing tools and fluorescent probes for the study of lipid raft partitioning role in membrane trafficking. In 2023, he moved back to Italy to study first the unprecedented roles of cholesterol biosynthesis intermediates at the Università degli Studi di Parma, and then he moved to IRCCS San Raffaele in Milan as responsible for the management of translational research and basic research projects on prostatic adenocarcinoma, with an in-depth focus on the molecular and cellular mechanisms. By the end of 2025, he joined Albanese’s lab as a Staff Scientist to be involved in deciphering the membrane trafficking of extracellular vesicles (EVs). In his free time, he loves playing futsal or a combination of photography, travelling, and outdoor activities.
