Paola Capasso

Paola graduated in Biochemistry at the University of Naples Federico II, where she obtained also a PhD in Industrial Biotechnology with a thesis focus on the metabolic pathways of bacteria able to grow using aromatic compounds as carbon source.

Then, she moved to Milan to join the Protein Expression and Purification Facility led by Ario De Marco at the IFOM–IEO Campus. During this period, she collaborated with several research groups and gained experience in molecular biology and biochemical techniques, protein purification methods (including AKTA systems), and biophysical characterization approaches.

In January 2016, she joined the ‘Epigenetic Regulation and Targeted Genome Editing’ group headed by Prof. Angelo Lombardo at the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (SR-Tiget). Over eight years, she acquired expertise in CRISPR–Cas9 technologies, genome and epigenome engineering, gRNA library preparation, flowcytometry analysis as well as laboratory management.

In October 2023, she moved to the Structural Biology Department at Human Technopole, in the group of Gaia Pigino, where she continued working on genome engineering in mammalian cell lines and other eukaryotic systems to investigate the mechanisms behind ciliopathies.

From December 2025 she joined the Albanese’s lab with the role of Lab Manager.

Paola loves the sea and the sun of Naples, where she goes whenever she can, do shopping and spend times with friends.
